Field Service Engineer - North

Responsibilities:

Provision of effective repair service

  • To achieve Company KPI’s of First Time Fix Rate.
  • To achieve Company KPI’s for Mean Time between Failures.
  • To achieve Company KPI’s of Car Stock accuracy.
  • To achieve Company KPI’s of implementation of ECR’s and TB’s.
  • To achieve Company KPI’s of performing PMI’s promptly.
  • To provide effective Technical Phone Support


Communicate with customers, peers and management effectively

  • FSE’s must ensure that they introduce themselves to the senior member of laboratory staff at the start of each site visit.
  • Confirmation of fault details / circumstances etc. must be ascertained prior to commencing work on analyser.
  • If work is required on another analyser at site being attended, then SA admin must be informed prior to any work taking place.  No work will take place without the specific authorization from SA.
  • Serial numbers must be checked against the call sheet and SA advised immediately if they differ.
  • Customer must be periodically kept informed of any changes to estimated completion time.
  • At completion of the call the senior member of laboratory staff must be consulted.  They must be supplied with all information regarding actions taken, causes of problems that occurred, and exact details of any required follow visits including their call log number.
  • You should communicate with your Regional Field Service Manager (RFSM) at least weekly to keep abreast of activity in your area.
  • SUK encourage communication between FSE’s and sales personnel so as to be aware of potential sales activity in your area; however your RFSM should be aware of this.
  • You should communicate to your RFSM any personnel issues that may affect your performance as a FSE.  Your RFSM will escalate any issues that they are not authorized to deal with.


Technical and product training

  • Buddy training
    • This involves spending time with more experienced FSE’s and will normally take place during the early stages of your time SUK.  This allows you to gain familiarity with the instrumentation, a basic understanding of operation, knowledge of working practices, site locations and key personnel.
  • Training at SUK
    • Training at SUK is usually instrument specific however applications training may also be given.
    • You may be required to stay over in Milton Keynes; in this case hotels will be arranged for you.
    • Training is certified and you will be required to pass an “end test” upon completion of the training to assess both your competence and understanding of the training given.
  • Training at Sysmex Europe Germany (SEG)
    • All SEG training will usually take place in Hamburg; however other locations within Europe will be used dependent upon the type of instrument being trained on.
    • SUK will receive a report on trainee participation and competence follow conclusion of the training.
    • SUK employees must remember that they must behave in a manner that does not compromise the integrity of SUK at all times whilst overseas on training.


Administration

  • Ensure SA is kept informed of revised ETA and completion times.
  • Prompt closure of calls before leaving sites and arrangements of any follow on visits.
  • FSE must call office prior to leaving to obtain date of follow up.  This information must be passed onto the customer.
  • Supply of correct part numbers when requesting parts.
  • Ensuring that correct details are placed in the call text when completing calls, please remember that the customer will see this information on their call sheets.
  • Provision of the EXACT error message the instrument is giving on call sheets.


Maintenance of company property

  • Car
    • You must keep your car clean and fit for purpose at all times.
    • SUK supply driver training and as such may restrict use of the vehicle if it is deemed that you present a danger either to yourself or the general public.
    • Any penalties incurred through speeding or parking must be paid by the individual.
    • Subsequent bans through accumulated penalties may result in dismissal from SUK.
    • A company car handbook is provided which contains all details associated with company vehicles.
    • You will be working on potentially infected equipment and therefore tools should be kept clean at all times and not be used for home use.
    • Test equipment will be calibrated annually.  You will be issued with loan equipment for the duration of the calibration process.
  • Tools & Test Equipment
    • You are provided with appropriate tools to allow you to carry out your job.
  • IT Equipment
    • Laptops and data communication devices are the property of the company and no software or hardware upgrades should be carried out without the express permission of the IT manager.
  • Mobile phone & Bluetooth
    • You are provided with a mobile phone for company use.  The company does not mind limited personal use as long as conversations are kept to a reasonable length.  Individual’s phones accounts are reviewed by management monthly.
  • Bluetooth is provided to enable you to RECEIVE calls whilst traveling.  On no account should outgoing calls be made whilst your vehicle is moving.  Conversations must be kept to a minimum. Refer to company vehicle handbook for further details.



Essential requirements:
HND (HNC with relevant experience) or equivalent in electronic and mechanical engineering
Hydraulic and pneumatic principles
Exceptional technical fault finding skills
The ability to read and understand technical diagrams
Customer focused – should strive to exceed customer requirements
Good and effective written and verbal communicator
Job flexibility & willingness to travel – support of peers and juniors throughout the UK, Ireland and Northern Ireland may be required
Meticulous, methodical & structured approach to work
